2020 Champions, the St Cowboys, will kick start their Hondina Cup defence this Saturday when they face the Rumina Raiders in the opening round of the 2021 Aiya Rugby League competition.

The 2021 Aiya Rugby League season will again feature eight clubs and run both a Men’s A-Grade and B-Grade league.

All teams are set to face each other twice before the competition Finals Series, which is currently scheduled for October.

The Yakipita based Cowboys will the Raiders who represent the Peaporopa and Onapale communities, before the Rims Tigers (Papiri & Yaguri) take on the Kamupa Pythons (Palisarepa, Kandina & Mui). The Para Eels (Ipa Para Ipundu) will face the Rame Sharks (Uma Apai) in their season opener, whilst it will be the battle of the Brothers when the Sumi 7 take on Lama.

Established at the start of 2020 to provide Rugby League activities to the people within the Aiya Local Level Government (LLG) in Papua New Guinea’s Southern Highlands Province, the inaugural Aiya Rugby League Men’s A-Grade Hondina Cup was won by the St Cowboys, who defeated the Kamupa Pythons 4 – 0 in the Grand Final. The B-Grade Grand Final finished in a draw between the Rumina Raiders and 7 Brothers.
