Rugby League Nines has been confirmed as one of the fifteen sports that are set to take place at the Eastern Highlands Provincial Games which have been scheduled to take place in Goroka next month.

The multi-sport tournament will feature representative teams from the eight districts within the Eastern Highlands and will be used as a selection event for the 8th PNG Games which is currently scheduled for Mendi in the Southern Highlands this November.

Rugby League Nines will take place at the historic Sir Danny Leahy Oval in Goroka, which has previously hosted multiple Kumul Test Matches, including the Kumuls famous victory over the touring Great Britain Lions in 1990.

The districts of Daulo, Henganofi, Kainantu, Lufa, Obura-Wonenara, Okapa, Unggai-Benna will each enter one team each into both the Men’s and Women’s competitions, whilst the Goroka District will be split into Goroka Urban and Goroka Rural (Gahuku / Minamalo).

The Eastern Highlands Provincial Games will run from July 12 – 18.
