The Marist Saints from Lotopa have won the inaugural Faleata Region Nines after they defeated Lepea Village 27 – 0 in the tournament Final on Saturday.
The inaugural Faleata Region Nines was a joint initiative of Rugby League Samoa and the Faleata Rugby Union and featured exclusively teams from the Faleata Region on the Island of Upolu who had never participated in a Rugby League competition before.
Eight teams took part in the tournament, with Marist and Lepea being grouped with the Malie Sharks and Tunani Springboks in the Vailimia Pure Pool A, whilst the Alfau Raiders, Taufusi Eels, Falelauniu Storm and the Vailoa Broncos were grouped in the Vailimia Lager Pool B.
Players from the tournament will be selected for the Faleata Knights team that is set to compete in the upcoming Ruby League Samoa Super Nines series.
Players from the tournament will now also be eligible for selection in future Representative fixtures, including the Island of Origin series.
