The Chinandega based Mercenariosu hold top spot in the inaugural Nicaragua Nines after progressing through the opening leg of the competition undefeated last weekend.

In a historic day for the code, Rugby League Nines made its debut in Central America, with the north-west city of Chinandega hosting the four team tournament.

Three of the four teams taking part in the tournament, the MonseRaptors, BigOne and Mercenariosu, are all based in the host city of Chinandega, whilst the fourth team, the Diablos, came from the Nicaraguan capital of Managua.

The Nicaragua Nines will see each team play each other twice over three weeks before the competition Finals. The second leg of the competition will take place on April 11 in Chinandega, whilst the final round of the group stages will take place at San José del Obraje on April 25. The competition Finals are currently scheduled on May 9.

The Asia Pacific Rugby League congratulates the Rugby League Nicaragua on successfully launching the domestic tournament and looks forward to welcoming them as a member in due course.
