The Blockers from Mt Hagen Central have won the inaugural Charles Lee Cup title after defeating the Muls North club 12 – 10 in Sunday’s Grand Final at Rebiamul Oval in Mt Hagen.

The tightly contested final, conversions proved the difference as the Kum club edged the Mul-Baiyer based ‘Norths’ in front of a capacity crowd.

The Charles Lee Cup was a new Off-Season competition for Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands, designed to provide opportunities for players from across the four main councils of Mt Hagen Central, Tambul-Nebilyer, Mul-Baiyer and Dei to showcase their skills to selectors from the Mt Hagen Eagles Digicel Cup club.

In the inaugural competition, thirty-two teams competed in the four tournament qualifiers before the top two from each district were joined by four invitational teams to take part in the tournament Finals Series.

Following the success of the tournament, a second edition of the Cup will be held in October this year.
