Rugby League returned to Tokyo for the first time in 2020 last Sunday when the Japanese Rugby League held the inaugural Toshima Mayor’s Cup.

The nine-a-side tournament, which took place at the Miyoshi Sports Park in Toshima City, featured three teams playing in a round robin competition at the venue as the Japanese Rugby League took its first steps to re-establishing the Japanese National Cup competition for 2021.

The event feature two composite teams, Japan Rugby League Combine and the Japanese Spartans, as well as local Rugby club, the Tokyo Gaijin Bulldogs, who have been returned to Rugby League for the first time in almost a decade.
