The newly formed Kaiviti Silktails team has gone down to the Hela Wigmen 18 – 12 in their first taste of top level opposition before their NSW Rugby League Ron Massey Cup debut later this month.

Facing last year’s Papua New Guinea Digicel Cup runners-up, the Silktails started slowly against the Wigmen, trailing 14 – 4 at halftime before clawing back against the visitors and had their opportunities to win the clash.

Try scorers for the Silktails were Josua Waqavesi, who collected a double for the Fijian outfit, and former National U20s Rugby Union representative, Nabetelevu Turaganivala.

Both teams finished with three tries a piece with conversions and penalty goals separating the two sides.

The Kaiviti Silktails kick off their Ron Massey Cup campaign, hosting the Windsor Wolves at Churchill Park on March 14.
