The French Under 19s have scored in the final minutes to record a 32 – 28 win over the Canterbury Under 20s team in the opening game of their New Zealand tour.

Taking place at Nga Puna Wai in Christchurch, the home team looked like they would record a tight 28 – 26 win over the touring French team before interchange player, Valentin Zafra, scored in the 79th minute to give the Junior Les Chanticleer’s a confidence boosting win.

The French team, which features players as young as 16, will now face the Waikto U20s in Ngaruawahia before taking on the New Zealand U18s in Rotorua on Thursday.
