The Confederação Brasileira de Rugby League has confirmed that the second Campeonato Brasileiro de Rugby League 9s will be held this April in the national capital.

The Nines event, which took place in Sau Paulo last last year as part of the Brasilian Festival of Rugby League, will look to be played twice in 2019 with Rio de Janeiro to host the first event for the year on April 6 at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) grounds.

Last year’s tournament featured four Men’s and two Women’s, with April’s edition hoping to grow the number of participants to six Men’s teams and six Women’s teams.

Paraná are the current defending Men’s National Nines champions, whilst Athenas Itanhaém (São Paulo) are the defending Women’s National Nines champions. Both teams are expected to defend their titles.
