Despite poor weather conditions across the Island nation the Suva / Nasinu based teams were able to take the field in the opening round of the 2019 Vodafone Cup Challenge.

Whilst ground closures in the West prevented competition newcomers, the West Fiji Dolphins, from playing their historic opening fixture in the national club competition for another week, the Eastern based teams highlighted that 2019 is set to be one of the tightest Vodafone Cup Challenge’s yet.

Kicking off the round, the Nausori Bulldogs defeated the Lami Steelers 26 – 16 at Buckhurst Park before the Suva City Storms defeated the other Bulldogs side, Makoi, 20 – 14 in a tightly contested clash.

The Madera Panthers again showed they’ll be one of the competition’s challengers with a 24 – 10 win over the Broncos, whilst the Army Bears defeated last year’s competition runners-up, the Police Sharks.
