Rugby League continues to expand in the Pacific nation of Vanuatu, with news that a new club is set to join the Port Vila Rugby League in 2018.

The premier competition on the Island of Malakula, the Port Vila Rugby League is set to see the Uluveou Sea Lions join the Port Vila Powerhouse, Ifira Blackbirds and Pango Kingsharks in the 2018 competition.

The Sea Lions will be the first club not based on the Island of Efate to join the Port Vila Rugby League, showcasing the continued growth of Rugby League throughout Vanuatu.

Commenting on the news, Vanuatu Rugby League High Performance Manager Brett Wright stated:

“We are always open to new clubs joining our league.”

“It is very exciting to not just have a new community & club joining our ranks, but the prospect of taking Rugby League to the Island of Malakula itself is a huge opportunity for both Rugby League & the people of Malakula”

The formation of the Sea Lions has been driven significantly by former international, Eric Smith Tosusu and will receive support from the Port Vila Powerhouse as the team prepares for season 2018.
