International Rugby League will return to South America for the first time in over a decade when the Confederacion Argentina de Rugby League hosts the inaugural El Primer Torneo Sudamericano de Rugby League.

The tournament, which will be held in Miramar in Buenos Aires, will feature representative teams from Brazil, Chile and hosts Argentina, playing off in a round-robin tournament on Saturday, November 12.

The tournament will represent the first time two South American nations have met in a full Rugby League International, and the first time a Rugby League international has been held on the continent for over 10 years.

Teams taking part in the tournament will feature players from each of the local competitions coordinated by Brasil Rugby League, Confederacion Argentina de Rugby League and Futbol A 13 Chile, representing how far the code has developed in the region over the past few years thanks to the hard work by the Latin Heat.

Each team will play each other once, resulting in all sides playing two games within the one day. The tournament winner will be decided by points at the completion of the day.

The last time a Rugby League international was played in South America was back in 2005 when the Australian Police side took on an Argentinian representative team. In that tournament, the visiting Police side defeated the local Argentinian side 40 – 4 and 60 – 6 in the respective series.
