The State of Espírito Santo in the nation of Brazil has held its first competitive matches of the season with the Baixo Guandu Rugby League conducting a series of nines and beach Rugby League games across the region.

First taking up the sport in 2015, the Baixo Guandu Rugby League has made significant progress in spreading the sport over the past two years, with Rugby League sessions being conducted in the in the cities of Aimorés, Resplendor and Baixo Guandu.

Playing against the Serra Rugby club, the Baixo Guandu Rugby League has held a series of matches throughout July against the rival municipality, as well as a number of inter-city clashes as they continue to take steps to establishing a domestic competition in the country.

The Serra Rugby club represents the municipality of Caxias do Sul in the mountainous region of Serra Gaúcha in Brazil. Games have varied from 9-a-side to Beach Rugby League depending on ground availability.
