Chile has defeated El Salvador in the inaugural full international between the two Latin American nations on Saturday.

Held at the historic Henson Oval in Sydney, the Chileans were simply too strong for the El Salvadorians running out convincing 58 – 20 victors.

After a tight opening quarter where both teams were locked up 6 – all, the Chileans scored 28 unanswered points to setup a convincing 32 – 6 lead at half time. Despite a fight back from the El Salvadorians, the lead was too much for the team to chase down.

The clash headlined a festival of Latin American Rugby League held at Henson Park today with two Nine-a-side and two Seven-a-side games held involving Ecuador, Colombia, Uruguay and Peru.

Results from those games were:
Ecuador 16 – 4 Colombia
Uruguay 12 – 10 Peru
Colombia 14 – 8 Ecuador
Uruguay 20 – 12 Peru

Ecuador won the Latin Heat ‘Shield of the North’ trophy on offer after defeating Colombia on aggregate (24 – 18), whilst Uruguay’s two wins game them the ‘Shield of the South’.
