Rugby League continues to make inroads into Brazil, with the southeast municipality of São Lourenço taking up interest in the code.

A small community located in the southern part of Minas Gerais, São Lourenço joins Espirito Santo community Baixo Guandu in conducting Rugby League training and local competitions in 2016.

The initiative has been run in conjunction with the São Lourenço Rugby Club and the Latin Heat Rugby League and will be used as a selection pathway to picking a Brazil national team (The Bestas Brasileiros) towards the end of the year.

Brazil is one of four nations in Central and Southern America currently running or looking to run domestic Rugby League competitions in 2016.
